Kaupe
$45.00 On sale
Kaupe was our first Polynesian Pop mug. Hand sculpted by Wolf, and then produced in Florida in ceramic by Eekum Bookum.
Hawaiian legend has it that there once was a man-eating creature, with the body of an enormous man, but with the head and claws of a dog. His name was Kaupe. Kaupe lived on the island of O’ahu, and ruled the Nu’Uanu Valley. According to the myth, Kaupe kidnapped a High Chief’s son, to use as a sacrifice at the heiau. With the aid of Kahilona, a great kahuna, the father was able to rescue his son, and ultimately kill Kaupe.
But Kaupe’s spirit remains on O’ahu to this day!
And as a Polynesian Pop mug he is huge, befitting his legend, because it is meant to be shared by two. I have photographed two mugs, to show the subtle glaze variations that occur with handmade mugs. This mug is a limited edition of 100.
